E-bike insurance

I have a class 3 e-bike.  When I bought it, I didn’t realize that it would be illegal to ride on most of the popular multi-use  trails in Seattle.  If I had an e-bike policy it probably wouldn’t cover me in the event of an accident on one of these trails.  These are the types of trails where I think I would need a policy the most.  I don’t plan on being the cause of any accident and I do ride on these types of trails as do many other class 3 e-bike riders.  I think the real issue is not necessarily how fast the bike can go but the expertise and habits of the rider.

I may still get a policy because I do ride a lot on roads.  I was quoted about $1000/year.  This includes a higher level of liability and a theft clause.

    Thoughts?
