MILL CREEK: First closure of westbound SR 96 scheduled July 21-23

Map shows location of SR 96 work zone in orange and detour route for westbound traffic in blue.

Westbound SR 96 traffic will detour around a work zone at North Creek July 21-23. One eastbound lane of SR 96 will remain open. Crews will begin work to replace an 18-inch pipe culvert, below, with a 25-foot fish passable structure beneath SR 96.

We will close all westbound lanes of State Route 96/128th Street Southeast and one eastbound lane July 21-23, as we start a project to install a new North Creek fish passage just northwest of Mill Creek. This is the first of three weekend closures to build the new culvert.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, July 21, until 10 p.m. Sunday, July 23, no westbound traffic will be allowed on SR 96 west of Elgin Way/Dumas Road through the work zone near McCollum Park. Eastbound traffic will be limited to the right lane, and people should expect delays or seek alternate routes.

A 6.5-mile signed detour will lead people traveling on westbound SR 96 around the closure using southbound SR 527 to westbound 164th Street Southeast and northbound Interstate 5. People should plan for additional travel time.

During the closure, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin excavation work and place temporary shoring piles in preparation for installation of a new 25-foot-wide concrete box culvert. The new culvert will replace an 18-inch pipe culvert preventing fish in North Creek from passing beneath SR 96. Once installed, the new fish passage will open almost 2.5 miles of additional habitat to native fish species.

ARLINGTON: Both directions of SR 530 to close July 14-18 to build roundabouts

Map shows location two roundabouts will be built on SR 530 near Arlington and detour routes around the closures in blue.

A signed detour will be in place around a July 14-18 closure of SR 530 between 59th Avenue Northeast and 211th Place Northeast.

We will close both directions of SR 530 this weekend just west of Arlington to build two new roundabouts that will help reduce the risk of serious collisions.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, July 14, until 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, eastbound and westbound SR 530 will close between 59th Avenue Northeast and 211th Place Northeast to build roundabouts at those intersections. A signed detour will direct people around the work zone using SR 9, SR 531 and Interstate 5. The detour is approximately 9.5 miles long, so people should plan for extra travel time.

A second full closure to complete construction is scheduled for later this summer after the July 21-23 Darrington Bluegrass Festival. Nightly single-lane closures with flaggers alternating traffic also will continue between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, July 17, through Friday morning, July 21.

    Additional work on SR 530

We also are working on a paving project along SR 530 between Oso and Darrington. That project will have daily single-lane closures with flaggers alternating traffic between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, July 17, through Thursday, July 20.

MARYSVILLE: SR 9 pavement repair project reaches final section

Don’t blink, or you will miss it. Next week our contractor will move on to the last of four sections along State Route 9 scheduled for pavement repair in this fast-moving project.

We will focus on the northernmost section of the project, with nighttime work between 108th Street Northeast and just north of 132nd Street Northeast. Between 8:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. nightly Sunday, July 16, through Friday morning, July 21, SR 9 will be reduced to a single open lane in that section, with flaggers and pilot cars alternating traffic through the area.

There also will be a closure of 132nd Street Northeast between SR 9 and 99th Avenue Northeast. Signed detours will be in place around the closure.

During the closures, our contractor will mill old, damaged pavement, repair other sections of the roadway and repave to create a smoother driving surface. After that, works shifts to replacing bridge joints, rumble strips and permanent striping, and that’s it.

That’s all folks! Our paving repair project focusing mostly on Snohomish County highways wrapped up with its final night of work on Wednesday, July 12.

The project, which began work last spring, repaved and made pavement repairs along a 3.5-mile stretch of Interstate 405 between the State Route 527/Bothell-Everett Highway and the I-5 interchange in Lynnwood. It also improved the driving surface along a four-mile stretch of SR 92 on the northern edge of Lake Stevens and on three ramps at the I-5 interchange and another at the SR 520 interchange in Bellevue.

Additionally, the project repaired the decks and replaced expansion joints on nine I-405 bridges, helping create smoother driving surfaces and extend the life expectancy of those bridges.

Our contractor, Lakeside Industries, delivered the project on time and under budget.

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE: Overnight I-5 lane reductions scheduled for next week

Sound Transit contractor crews will close the HOV lane of southbound I-5 between 220th Avenue and SR 104 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, July 17, through Friday morning, July 21. The work is part of the ongoing on the Lynnwood Light Rail extension construction.
