Ride leader Neil Gilham 206-595-7074, neilski55@hotmail.com
Register by 8 PM evening before the ride. Group size limited to 6.
This is a mentored ride, my first as ride leader, mentored by Rick Proctor.
MODERATE pace (14 – 16 mph), 22 miles, A terrain with 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Frequent regroups. Pace will adjust to trail conditions (i.e. other trail users) on Burke-Gilman and South Canal Trails.
Meet at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM roll out at Lynnwood Light Rail Station (at the ground level elevator).
Parking: The Lynnwood Transit Center garage is often full during weekdays. I will park by 8:20 AM at the little park by Sprague's Pond off Cedar Valley Road and then ride the half mile trail to the Lynnwood Station via this route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51472862 Another option is to cycle to Lynnwood Station via the Interurban Trail.
This ride starts at Lynnwood Light Rail station where we will board the train, then ride the train to UW Light Rail station to begin the bicycle ride. We'll loop around Lake Union then through Ballard, Golden Gardens, Ballard Locks, Fisherman's Terminal, then back to the UW Rail Station for the return train ride back to Lynnwood. Coffee/lunch stop at Fisherman's Green Deli & Market at Fisherman's Terminal. Required dismount and walk your bike through the Ballard Locks.
Riding light rail: This is a great ride to see how it's done (easy!). Bring ORCA card or purchase ticket at vending machines. Train cars with bike racks have a "bicycle" symbol on the outside door. The racks hold two bikes. If the rack is full, you can stand and hold your bike. It's fine!
