Join me for a MENTORED ride from the top of Richmond Beach Saltwater Park to Paine Field Community Park, with lunch/coffee after the ride.
The route starts with a nice downhill along Woodway Park Road into Edmonds and then climbs gently through Olympic View Drive to Perrinville. Then we have a nice climb up to Meadowdale where there will be a bathroom and clothing adjustment stop. From here it is on to Paine Field Community Park for an optional restroom break. Then we retrace our route back to the start.
After the ride, anyone who wishes to join me is welcome to come to the Blackbird Café, which is just around the corner from our starting point (1843 NW 195th St, Richmond Beach Road). The restaurant is owned by a Cascade Ride Leader and is a great place for a reasonable lunch or a coffee.
The Start: Let's meet at the entrance to the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park (190th St and 20th Ave) and please be ready to ride at 10:30 am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
NOTE There no parking on 20th Avenue, into the park. I recommend parking in the first parking lot down the hill or along the street on 21st or 22nd Ave. Note the lower parking lot is a good climb from the starting point.
Pace: We will be riding at the Steady pace (12-14 mph when flat with no head or tail winds). We will climb and descend hills at our own pace ( I am slow going up hills and fast going down). We will regroup frequently.
Rest stops: Restrooms are available at the start (but they are at the bottom of the hill in the park, so be sure to come early if you need them). We will stop at about mile 9 for a restroom and again at the halfway point for restrooms at about mile 13.
The Basics: These rides are not supported. Riders should be able to sustain the pace, carry nutrition/water, and have the know-how and equipment to fix a flat tire. We will pause briefly to assess any mechanical problem but will not delay the group for an extended time. Everyone should carry a cell phone to call for assistance if needed.
Be considerate and have full fenders including mud flaps if roads are wet or a prediction of rain is in the forecast. If you don't have fenders, you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
