Sedro Woolley - Rasar State Park Steady Ride @ 10:00 AM

Meet on Friday, 5/17 at 9:45 AM at the Cascade Trail - West parking lot for a 10:00 AM roll out.

This is a steady pace ride (12 - 14 mph) of about ~36 almost miles with very little elevation gain on a mix of quiet roads and the gravel Cascade Trail.  There is a 0.7 mile section along highway 20 in each direction.  The alternative is riding down the Wiseman Creek bed where it drains Minkler Lake - as in ride through 5 or 6 inches of water.  I've done that.  It's messy fun!  This time I'll go with the short detour on highway 20 though.

There are no bathrooms at the start.  Hit a stop on the way there or we can take a short detour to the city park in Lyman about 7 miles into the ride.  Last time I was there the bathroom was open, but no guarantee.  There is a bathroom at Rasar State Park at mile 16.

The last time I rode it (October), the gravel parts of the trail were in generally good condition.  I would recommend a gravel bike with wider tires or a mountain bike.  I've ridden it on 32mm urban commuter bike tires but can't say it was my favorite ride.  A road bike setup with narrow tires might be ... adventurous ... on the gavel sections past Minkler Lake.  I'll be taking my mountain bike.

The forecast looks good so far, but sunscreen may be a good addition to the usual water, snacks, and flat repair equipment.  Group size is set to 8 including the ride leader.  Register by 8 PM the night before the ride.
