Hello everyone. I am planning on a Barlow Pass ride Saturday 8/18/2018. I plan on starting the ride about 10:00 at the Verlot Ranger Station (33515 Mountain Loop Hwy, Granite Falls, WA 98252)  and riding all the way up to Barlow Pass approx. 20 miles. Most of this will be uphill. Starting at an elevation of around 900ft to 2,361′ at Barlow Pass. The good thing is most of it will be downhill on the way back.

I plan on making this a social to steady pace heading up (10-14mph). On the way back it'll be whatever you are comfortable doing, some are faster than others. The terrain is mostly Rolling hills, but there is an occasional steep grade up to Big Four Ice Cave Trailhead about 15 miles. From Big Four to Barlow Pass it's a little steeper, 5% grade for another 5 miles.

It may be Warm!  so bring lots of water and Electrolyte drink mix. There will not be food available, so bring a lunch, snacks or protein bars. There will be Water and Bathrooms available at Verlot Ranger Station, Big Four Trailhead, and Barlow Pass, but otherwise, there are trees and the river. So remember to come prepared. I'll try and pack some extra water just in case.

Rick Proctor mentioned to me that there have been Bear reports. I googled bear reports around Verlot and found this: Brazen behavior by bears reported along Mountain Loop | HeraldNet ... For this, I plan on purchasing and taking with me Bear Spray for the safety of the riders, whoever decides to join me. I am not trying to scare anyone off, just make them aware of the possible threat.

I hope to be able to do this ride again in Sept and possibly in October and November, depending upon the weather.

If you feel like joining me, please email me and let me know at gtrinkes@gmail.com

I hope to see some of you there.

    Gabe
