On Jan. 6 I had the pleasure of meeting with Elizabeth Kiker, new Executive Director of Cascade Bicycle Club. She was interested in the lay of the land in Snohomish County regarding infrastructure and who the bike-friendly influential people are. She let me ramble on probably longer than I should have but I left with the feeling that Cascade is changing to be more inclusive, with the view that we are all in this together in working for a better community through cycling.

I could elaborate on instances where this has been demonstrated recently but the latest was the attendance by Ms. Kiker with her youngster and also Blake Trask Statewide Policy Director for Washington Bikes at the Feb. 15 signing ceremony of the sale to Snohomish County of the 12 mile rail / trail corridor from Snohomish to Woodinville.

I had to leave shortly after the signing and regretted not being able introduce both Elizabeth and Blake to a few influential Snohomish County leaders that perhaps they would not know. Upon emailing Ms. Kiker my regrets her return email said in part.

I'm so glad to hear from you, and really glad to see you last Saturday. What a great ceremony, and so much energy around cycling in Snohomish! Blake does do a great job at Washington Bikes --- we're so glad to partner with them so we can all work smarter and harder.

I will make the time to come back out to Snohomish and meet more of the movers and shakers in the coming months. Will you suggest a meeting or time that would work? The whole region is excited about what's happening in your area.

     Thanks again,

    Elizabeth

If you’re not yet signed up to volunteer for McClinchy please do so. We need many hands so that we can each do a small bit and make light work of the day. We want the participating riders to have a great experience and return with others next year.
